I think that there is a distinct difference between online watching and live TV, and I think Tony Khan gets it where Vince doesn’t. When it comes to live TV, it’s about the immediate pop for Nielsen to go ohh and ahh. On the other hand, when it comes to online streaming, it’s almost a 40/60 thing of immediate reaction vs. max views. If something is really good, people are going want to watch it over and over again, share it, and show it to there friends–some who may not be wrestling fans at all. Something going viral will lead a video online to the mainstream market. Also, nowadays, I bet the average wrestling fan who saves and watches wrestling on TV (WWE, AEW, Impact or any promotion with a syndicated presence) will more times than not skip through a VOD to get to the good stuff, which oft times will be a really good and entertaining match that has stakes that make sense and are relevant, and frankly right now there are very few storylines that makes sense or character that one can actually believe will have a chance at succeeding in the WWE no matter what they say in their promos.
Also, if I were an investor in media in general, it would behoove me to constantly keep learning and staying on top of the pulse of what average viewers habits are and not be bogged down by just the status quo.
