The Kim Soo Hyun press Conference

For those who don’t watch or follow Korean dramas or the Korean Entertainment industry, Kim Soo Hyun is a well-known and beloved actor with a long list of series and movies to his credit. Recently, an actress, Kim Sae-ron, who was represented by the same company as Kim Soo Hyun (Gold Medalist–who is run by Kim Soo Hyun’s cousin) tragically took her own life at the age of 24. This opened up a big scandal involving Kim Sae-ron and Soo Hyun, as accusations came out that Soo Hyun (37) started dating Kim Sae-ron when she was 15 years old and he was 27. The resulting drama of that relationship and everything that surrounded it ultimately led to Sae-ron taking her life. This morning, Kim Soo Hyun had a press conference in front of the Korean press to address these allegations. Below are some of my thoughts.

I randomly watched some of the press conference early this morning. After watching, his body language and watching some translations that I’ve read. True, they are translations, but the years that have been thrown around are the same, he seems more suspicious to me.

I find it odd that the producers, cast, and crew of Queen of Tears would care about a relationship with an adult female that ended a year before the principal production of the series began if we’re going by his timeline. At that point, he hasn’t had anything to do with her life. Kim Soo Hyun himself stated, “Like most couples, we were cautious to contact each other separately after breaking up.” If this is true, it means he had no contact with Kim Sae-ron, by the time Queen of Tears started principal production, so why would the cast and crew care?

I can understand him being upset about being seen as a coward, but this man cried dang near the whole press conference. He only stopped when the video of the call was being heard. He was even silently crying at points while the text messages were being shown as evidence to refute the family’s claims. Why, if he’s being above board?

I understand Kim Soo Hyun not answering questions during the press conference, but I didn’t see his representative answer questions either. In fact, the only time his legal representative spoke for any length of time was when he announced that they were suing the operator of the Garosero Institute YT channel, Kim Sae-ron’s family, and a person claiming to be Kim Sae-ron’s aunt for 12billion KRW or 8.16million USD.

He also talked about wanting to come forward every time new info from Kim Sae-ron’s family and that YT site, Garo Sero Institute were released, but changed his mind, because it may hurt others. How is denying the allegations (like he did in this press conference) going to hurt others that he cares about? Being silent is what hurts others that he cares about. I mean he said if given another chance, he would respond the same way, so what was the point of him stating about the care of the hurt of others, if in fact, he would allow them to hurt again, if given the chance to do this all over?

I don’t know. If it was me, I wouldn’t be crying about being lied on. I would be mad. I would have been defiant in that press conference–defiant, pissed, and maybe a bit belligerent. I know he can’t face his accuser, because sadly she took her own life earlier this year, which prompted this whole situation to blow up, but he can face the family. After watching what I did, he just seems more suspicious, it just don’t smell right, and doesn’t add up.
