So, Marvel released their list of the cast members who will be acting in the upcoming movie, which should begin the road to Battleworld, and the eventual rebooting of the Marvel Universe after the Multiverse Saga. There are a few things I want to talk about after this event is over…five and a half hours later!
I caught this event randomly after Letitia Wright’s chair announced that she would be reprising her role in the movie. Yes, the way Marvel decided to show the names of the actors who would be in the Doomsday movie was to reveal a folding chair with an actor’s name on it every 10-12 minutes. Now, I have no problem with the way this played out. My issue is that the time frame for this movie was way too long. Personally, I would have revealed each chair at five-minute intervals, but 10-12-minute intervals were way too long. I don’t know if 10 or 12 minutes had some type of significance to the upcoming movie, but announcing what totaled 27 characters in five and a half hours just was a brazey (brazen and crazy).
I will say though, as the five-and-a-half hour went along and with some of the names that got revealed, I’m not gonna lie–the interest in who would get named next did add some excitement to the stream. I was shocked to see that many of the original X-Men actors are reprising their roles again. Maybe some of those characters and actors can finally get the justice they deserve. Seeing Channing Tatum reprising his role as Gambit was very interesting. Also, it was nice to see Robert Downey Jr. at the end, so there’s that.
I just wish that whoever the marketing team was for this event would have pondered about the time they were wasting with the time intervals they chose for this event. True, by the end, over 10 million people (through all forms of social media) were watching the event. True, there is an idiom that goes “All publicity (either positive or negative) is good publicity”. That being said, for the next promotional dump, they may want to think about how much time the average viewers are willing to give to a promotion event, especially considering that Marvel isn’t on the high it once was after the end of Marvel’s Endgame almost a decade ago. Viewers and consumers of their product have become cynical of whether it is worth the time.
Below is a list of all the actors who were revealed during the Marvel Doomsday announcement stream and a shortened video version of the reveal:
