Some years ago, I wrote a rant that still resonates with me today…

Now, there will unfortunately always be sheep, especially in this country (it would seem), because many don’t seem to use Religion as a guide. Many willfully want to be sheep when following whatever Religion (or Political ideology) they follow, and are told that if the next person isn’t following the same Religion, then either there’s something wrong with them, or they just need to be converted to “my” Religion. That’s not how it works people, and I am grateful that the Founding Fathers (who were running from Religious persecution) had enough sense to add Religious freedoms for all and a separation of church and state because they’d seen and lived through what a State/Country run by a supposed Religious leader (The Monarchy) was like.
Also, especially in this country, many people are too individualistic–they only really care about themselves (and sometimes their loved ones), and they don’t think about how their actions (or inactions) actually affect others. As long as that thinking is still in play, nothing will really change in this country. It didn’t use to be that way, but it has gotten worse and worse, and frankly, people really need to wake up, because it’s not going to get better if we as a society can’t stop being selfish. Also, we as a country need to start seeing things from someone else’s point of view, because as the saying goes, “Unless or until you walk a mile in my shoes, you can’t know my story”… paraphrased badly of course, but there you go.
I’ll say this last and then I’m done…all this fear, blame, and cancel culture needs to end. I learned as a young child that all humans (no matter how we like to think to the contrary) are flawed. We all make mistakes (have opinions that are like assholes…all stink) and if we are lucky, get to learn from those mistakes (if we are common-sensically intelligent enough to do so) adapt and move on. Nowadays, that has gone out the window, and it’s not just caused by social media–social media only exacerbates it. People have forgotten the one fact that we all make mistakes and that NONE of us are perfect. If people don’t wake up to this fact, nothing is going to change.
