/begin rant
Gonna be honest…kinda lowkey angry about it. This is coming from someone who has worked in TV and performance shows for more than a decade. The producers and director…and especially the sound people of this awards show had one job…make sure the show goes off without a hitch and to be ready to work on the fly should issues erupt. It’s the whole reason you have rehearsals and dry runs, but I gotta say that the production team of this awards show messed up especially the end of this show big time.
I feel bad for Becky G, Lana del Rey, Twice, and the presenters for Becky G and Lan Del Rey because this production team messed their moments up. Producers and especially the director were supposed to actually direct his/her crew and prepare beforehand, but I honestly don’t think they cared enough to do their jobs correctly. Honestly, during the whole show, there were little issues that led up to the bigger issues that happened toward the end of the show. I know…I get it…I’m a Once (Twice’s fandom name), so if I feel like anyone is disrespecting the girls, I am gonna be on the defensive, but this goes far past that.
Fans of Becky G and Lana del Rey didn’t get to hear their artist speak during the live stream through the constant lagging and sound issues of the last half of the show if they heard it at all in the case of Becky G. Also, during Twice’s performance, the sound team had the members’ mics way too low and honestly, they fucked Jihyo over, because it sounded like her mic was near completely turned off, and I don’t think that she could hear herself well. That being said, Jihyo and the rest of the girls still got it and they performed well, but it was clear that the production team for this awards show failed miserably (fumbled the bag) when it came to performing their duties. The camera shots were shitty as if they’d never rehearsed or had done a sound check for this performance, and once the performance was over, they basically had the girls shoo’d off the stage, as the MC for the show tried to hurry and end the proceedings. What a shitshow of an awards show ending.
Honestly, if I didn’t know any better, I’d think that Billboard was doing what Army always accuse the Grammys of doing with BTS, using Twice for online streams and views (they were the last act to perform). I know they wouldn’t have sold as many tickets to this awards show as they did, and they certainly wouldn’t have had as many views of the live stream, and that’s sad because Twice, Becky G and LanaDel Rey deserved better than the last half of this awards show.
Also, I’m sending prayers to Doechii because she hurt her ankle during her performance at the award show and that was very unfortunate.
