On the whole, this PVP actually was more towards the extreme side, and that definitely was a change from the last few years of honestly bland and garbage PVPs with the “Extreme Rules” moniker slapped on it. That being said, this year’s incarnation was mostly fun to watch with a few highlights throughout.
Donnybrook Match: Brawling Brutes vs Imperium
The was a crazy hot mess of a match, and honestly, I really liked it. Imperium were straight playing up the heel role, as they focused on Sheamus for part of the match. The fact that they even had a faux bar area and barrels to use during the match was a nice added touch. The match on the whole was by far better than many of the Extreme matches that WWE has put on in the last few years. I just hope that this was a taste of what is to come. 4/5
WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship: Liv Morgan vs Rhonda Rousey
The match started off slow with some good hits and submissions. I gotta say that I am loving Rousey in this match, cause she’s showing some of her personality in this match, and that is what Rousey really needed. There was some nice back-and-forth in this match. I honestly think that Rousey, and indirectly the women’s division needs more of this stiff, gritty, realness in their matches because recently I haven’t really cared about the women’s matches in WWE. Amazing matches have been more of an exception than the rule for me in the WWE recently, and this match is definitely an exception. That finishing sequence was some of the best stuff I’ve seen in women’s wrestling in the last six months in the ring. 4.5/5
Strap Match: Karrion Kross vs Drew McIntyre
I actually like the psychological games from Kross at the beginning of the match. It is interesting that a good part of this match took place before the bell rang. McIntyre was selling his ass off in this match for Kross. I feel like since McIntyre is actually having back problems, this may be a good way to write McIntyre out so that he can rest his back and do the things he needs to recover. McIntyre’s selling really allowed Kross and Bourdeaux to heel it up for the crowd. That being said, I can’t boo Kross. That dude is an amazing wrestler and talent, and he was killing it in the ring. This match was a 6.5 out of 5 match, until the end of the match. I generally hate cheatery wins, and Scarlet coming in the ring and spraying Drew with Pepper Spray was just a garbage and cheap reason to win. I really HATE cheat wins. That being said, this was the match of the night for me. 4.5/5
WWE Raw Women’s Championship Ladder Match: Bianca Belair vs Bayley
There were some moves in this match that really looked like they hurt like crazy. Ladders never work the way you want them to in a match, and frankly, because of my fear of heights, because I saw the injury that happened to Sid Vicious when he fought Scott Steiner, I am always nervous when anyone starts climbing up a ladder, a belt buckle…anything. I mean I know this is a ladder match, but still…I hate cheating. I do like that Belair was able to fight off Io Shirai and Dakota kai before, taking care of Bayley to retain her title. 3.5/5
“I Quit” Match: Finn Balor vs Edge
I’m gonna be honest…I don’t care about this match at all. Except for Rhea Ripley, I’m not interested in any of this Judgement Day/Edge//Dominic and Rey Mysterio storyline. Though they tried their best to try and pull me into this match, though some of the things that happened in this match were crazy, I still didn’t care about this match as I was watching it…and I love both Edge and Finn Balor. I don’t care about this storyline, and this match didn’t change that stance. This match died for me when the rest of Judgement Day came out to help Balor. Everything that happened until Rhea and Beth squared up was damn near complete garbage. Then this match finally picked up, cause frankly, the whole Dominic thing has been dumb and petulant. Then it went to shit again. The numbers game is honestly cheap to me and always has been. If you are indeed a badass heel, you don’t need to cheat to win. In true babyface fashion, Edge said I quit to save his wife, and honestly, in true heel fashion, Rhea Ripley gave a conchairto to beth anyway. 3/5
I just gotta say…I love Dexter Lumis.
Main Event – Fight Pit Match: Matt Riddle vs Seth Rollins
Gonna be honest…I was way more concerned about Cormier knocking someone out than Rollins or Riddle. Though I didn’t care about the story of this match at all, I have been enjoying this match. So when Riddle had Rollins in a rear naked choke on the platform above the ring, he could have just choked him out then and got then throw him in the ring and get the count out. Riddle’s senton off the platform was crazy. I’m glad Matt Riddle finally won. 3.5/5
After the match, the lights went out. Then Bray Wyatt put on one of the best comeback moments of the year, and I just know that this comeback was thought up at least in part by him. This entrance has his fingers all over it. I am so glad that the crowd cheered their heads off for him.
Again, on the whole, this PVP was fun. It wasn’t the best PVP of the year, but it was worth the price of admission, and I can’t wait to see what Bray Wyatt and Dexter Lumis have for us in the coming weeks.
