Day 5
-I arrived in Ardenwaeld and was immediately put to work in helping to repel baddies and help aid in keeping wildseeds alive.
– The First mount that I’ve seen or paid attention to was available for me while questing.
– The Sicklethron Zappers and Slicers are a bitch, especially if you are just starting back in the game with little or no gear.
– I am constantly reminded jsut how much gear over skill matters in this game. Even thought I was higher level than the mobs that I was fighting, because my gear (gear that I’d gotten as quest rewards I might add) was so undervalued, I simply couldn’t outlast the damage as a Ret Pally, even though I was healing myself.
– Also, geodata is still a bitch in this game compared to other games in the same genre.
Day 6
– Ardenwaeld is kinda sad to playthrough so far.
– So I do all this to talk with the Winter Queen, just for her to not even acknowledge my existence. Damn!
– There are still things about exploring the world. I should be able to climb and walk on a big branch…or a tree root.
Day 7
– I start the day off at level 59 still in Ardenwaeld.
– So, I absolutely hated the “Break It Down” quest. i find it extremely stupid that you force people to find some of Primerose’s fairy powder in order to blow altars up, when Primerose is actually on the quest with you.
– I would love if they gave players the Fairy Wings as a flying/riding mount for joining the Night Fae Covenant. Same goes for the Kyrian…it would be so cool get the Kyrian wings as a riding/flying mount for joining their covenant.
– Just twist the knife in Blizzard. It was bad enough seeing Ysera die once before. I didn’t want to have to watch it again.
– So, I’ve made it to Revendreth, I am attempting to turn in a quest, and somehow, after attacking a mob, I encounter amazing amounts of lag to the point where I was killed through a wall on the other side of the courtyard from the mobs that were attacking me. When I went to release, it took a minute or two for me to actually release to the graveyard.
– So, I’ve been called Minion, slave, insect, and seemingly everything else in the book, but I’m supposed to help Denathrius.
– The Penitent Hunt quest could have been presented better.
– Ok if you want The Accuser, the Prince and the Curator to gather anima, the quest needs not be glitched so that they can do it. This is fucking pathetic that with all the issues with this game, the devs still don’t know how to fucking fix bugs. Because of it I can’t finish Revandreth. I think it’s complete bullshit that you have players go through a multiple part instance chain, only to get to the end and have to start over because the Blizzard devs don’t know how to FIX THEIR FUCKING BUGS!!!!!!!!!
– Finally, I am finished with the beginning storyline of this expansion. Now it’s on the covenants.
– I need to think on how I feel about the story of Shadowlands so far. Right now, its bed time and I have to think long and hard about whether I got with the Kyrian or Maldraxxus as my covenant on my Ret Pally.
My thoughts on the expansion so far:
So first off I want to say that I chose the Kyrian, because it’s the best in terms of soulbinds for my Ret Pally. The opening/leveling story of Shadowlands is very much hit and miss. The Kyrian’s story is very much hurry up and wait in alot of respects. As a player, I just escaped the Maw by the skin of my teeth, leaving my fellow heroes, Jaina, Thrall, Anduin and Baine behind. My first thoughts are that I need to get help, so that I can go back and free them ASAP. I go to Bastion in hopes of gaining that help, and instead I am met with, “You have to first purify yourself in order to gain an audience with the Archon.” Also, I’m trying my best as a player to warn the Kyrian of the impending threat from the Maw, but almost no one believes me or seems to care. They all are in this false sense of blindness when it comes to the Jailer and the Maw that is quite stupid to be frank. After it is actually too late to stave off the invasion of Bastion, I am tasked with going back to Oribos to tell that them that no help is coming from the Kyrian, cause they got problems of their own, which could have been avoided, if they’d just listened. I mean I would think that a mortal showing up in the deadlands would have been a bit telling that all is not normal day to day going on.
Then I am sent to Maldraxxus, and where the story as a hole picks up considerably. I am sent to Maldraxxus, because it was some of their denizens that invaded Bastion, and I’m sent to find out why. I am dropped in the middle of an arena battle, and I am tasked with standing or falling by the skill of my sword. Rock on! After I’ve won the melee, I am immediately thrown into a betrayal play, and saved by Baroness Draka–yes that Draka (Thrall’s mom) swooping in to save me from certain death. The rest of my time in maldraxxus is spent gaining the truth of the Chosen, while trying to unravel who was at the center of this betrayal, which included the assassination of the Primus of Maldraxxdus, and I gotta tell ya I didn’t see this twist coming. Also, my time spent in the lands of the Necrolords was actually fun, and the reason behind the quests actually made sense.
Next was Ardenweald and the Night Fae. I really thought this area of the Shadowlands was beautifully created, but I gotta say the story was hit and miss. Gonna be honest, the Winter Queen is aloof and dismissive, which is bad when someone is trying to help save your lands and is trying to warn you of impending doom. That being said, I think the story picked up when I attuned with a specific wildseed, and it bacame more and more evident that I was gonna have to defend these lands in order to keep my bonded friend safe. Also, as a Ret Pally, I didn’t think that the skills given by the Night Fae were particularly for my class or spec. I think gamers that are playing the Hunter or Druid class would probably prefer the skills of the Night Fae to others, but honestly, I’ll have to try those out to see if I am correct.
After helping to stave off the invasion of the Drust into Ardenweald, I was sent to Reavendreth next. Almost immediately I wanted to murder Chamberlyne. I didn’t like that he treated me like a minion. I didn’t like his houtie toutie attitude, and his sycophantic “Notice me Sem…Denathrius” personality left alot to be desired. Oh..and let’s talk about the illustrious leader of Revendreth, Sire Denathrius. From the first second of meeting him, I knew he was evil. He dripped with the aura of vileness that can make a person’s skin crawl. During the first half of Revendreth, I wanted to kill all of the people I was working with. That was until the Wild Hunt. After that point, I was all in. The rest of my adventure of Revendreth was fun and I found the characters very interesting.
After I was free to leave Revadreth, I was sent back to Oribos to report to the other leaders on what I’d seen. Afterwards, it was time to begin my journey through current endgame content. I will say that one bright spot on endgame is Torghast. There are streamers like Asmongold and others that think the Tower may be too easy. I think that in many, many ways Torghast is Blizzard’s version of Final Fantasy’s “Palace of the Dead” and “Heaven on High” towers. Much like those two Torghast is supposed to get progressively harder as players reach high levels. If that is the case, then it makes sense for the lowest floors to be easier–especially to those who call WoW their main game. Having said that, for those of us who only come back to WoW when a new expansion comes out, or those of us who frankly have a life outside of the game, and don’t make a living off of the game, the lower floors may be a welcome refresh from the norm.
That being said, on the whole, like I stated before the beginning tale of Shadowlands has its peaks and valleys, so I’m waiting to see what they will give us in the next part of our journey through the afterlife of Azeroth. Honestly, I’m hoping that us players will get a chance to redeem some characters, to see some characters, but mostly I’m waiting to see something that’s new to the lore. I hold a sliver of hope not to be disappointed.
What do yall think? How are your experience in WoW different or similar? What do you think the new expansion so far? Let me know in the comments below.
