After watching the full interview, I feel in many ways that Punk’s playing it safe, when it comes to the WWE, because he’s there now. Remembering what happened with the YoungBucks/Omega thing, I still say it was based on Punk’s ego. After he won the belt from Moxley and injured himself, he was alone in that ring when MJF came out to reveal himself. Though Punk had just given a good match for the people in attendance and won his belt through injury, he was completely overshadowed by the MJF reveal. No one was paying attention to him in that ring, even when he raised the belt in the air, and you could see it on his face…he was not pleased. That’s a lot of why he went off in the scrum. I think that triggered him more than some comment about Cabana.
When it comes to the Perry thing, I still feel like the whole situation was childish. I can understand Punk’s reasoning about using the rental car in a way that would be a detriment to other wrestlers and being able to rent cars. I will say this though, if he wasn’t the only one trying to stop Perry from using real glass in an angle, why was he the only one triggered by him saying “Real glass. Cry me a river.” Also, Punk making the statement that “he didn’t hit anyone…he just choked someone a little” is just semantics and asinine. He put his hands and arms on someone, and it could have been avoided. Why did he feel that he had to go up to Perry (Punk’s own words) and say anything to him about his words? Is Punk so thin-skinned that he feels he needs to address everything that he doesn’t like what’s said? Frankly, he’s too damn old to be acting like that, especially if, as he said, he’s been young and has acted and felt as Perry has in the past. Both of these situations could have been avoided, if Punk could have taken a breath, just taken himself out of the situation, and stop being so narcissistic.
Honestly, I feel, especially after the Moxley match, that Punk saw the writing on the wall that he wasn’t “THE MAN” in AEW and that wasn’t good enough for him. Now, in WWE, he is one of the big men in honestly (the way the storylines are going currently in WWE) a smaller pond in terms of story.
