When it comes to the Women’s Divisions of both WWE and AEW, and Becky Lynch’s comments, I think she conveniently left out a few things about WWE’s failings in their own Women’s division. Both divisions have glaring issues that need to be fixed in order for them to improve.
AEW needs a few more names like Athena or Mia Yim added to the roster. A lot of the wrestlers need more reps in the ring, but that will come. The AEW Women’s Division needs both factions and more storylines that can grip the fans. I also think that wrestlers like Jade Cargill are well on their way to becoming one of the top women’s wrestlers of today, but I also think that from the matches I’ve seen, she is still too green to carry a competent match to fruition. To be fair, I would have put the TBS Championship on someone like Ruby Soho or Serena Deeb, and had Jade Cargill chasing the belt in order to get her some more matches under her belt and more training so that when we finally challenged for the belt, she could give an amazing, botch-free match. An example is her match versus AQA. That match was amazing because it was more about how great a wrestler AQA was than how good a champion and wrestler Jade is, and frankly, I think that’s the best match that Jade Cargill has had since joining AEW. Her other matches, even the match where she won the TBS Championship showed just how green she still is. Imagine if it was Athena that won that belt, and you had Ruby Soho, Serena Deeb, Jade Cargill, and others chasing after it, all the while throwing off storylines that branch off from that chase. It would have been a far more fleshed-out story that’s being told in the Women’s division. That being said, I do love that AEW has long-term booking that makes sense for the most part, so I have hope that they can turn it around for the Women’s division.
The WWE Women’s Division (and I’m including the women of NXT 2.0) needs some of the same things. The wrestlers outside of the Four Horsewomen, Asuka, Nicky Cross, Rhea Ripley, Candance LeRay, and Bianca Belair need work. Frankly, some of them shouldn’t be wrestling and should be relegated to a manager role….they just aren’t good no matter how much they’re trained. Some of the wrestlers need more reps in the ring…and as well as more reps in the practice ring. Also, the current storylines in the WWE Women’s Division, on the whole, are really atrocious. Also, they may get more women’s matches on the whole than AEW, but the majority of those matches outside of the top wrestlers are almost a waste of time at this point, because they are way too short, and in terms of whatever storyline that the writers of WWE are trying to tell are either completely lost on the audience or they are petty and nonsensical. I mean I get that people can be petty, but in many of the storylines that I’ve seen recently, the level of petty has reached to low of just being childish, and I don’t think any adult should be portrayed in that light on a regular basis, regardless of gender. Frankly, if it wasn’t for matches between some of the top names on their roster, with the way the current Women’s division is devolving since Vince MacMahon and Bruce Pritchard took it over, I, unfortunately, wouldn’t be surprised if we viewers start seeing the reemergence of “Bra and Panties” matches, considering the way some of the women are promoted on NXT 2.0., and frankly that’s a damn shame.
Lastly, both companies need to improve on their women’s division. I just think that no matter how much I love Becky Lynch, she shouldn’t have said anything about AEW. I mean according to the WWE public line, AEW isn’t competition right, so what was the point of commenting on them.
