Just a couple thoughts for March 14th, 2019…

Avengers Endgame movie trailer and why I liked it.

SO, the third and longest trailer for Avengers: Endgame has released this morning, and with it all the feels and stakes in this fight to save not only Earth but the universe. I may have a different opinion than most reviewers that will undoubtedly be reacting to this trailer, but I actually liked it and my reasons why may be a little different than some.

I have liked the trailer campaign for this movie throughout, because unlike in other movies with a part 2 or sequel trailers in the past; these trailers doesn’t show any big action scenes. These trailers have shown the toll that the events of Avengers: Infinity War has taken on each surviving hero. This may be a spoiler for those that haven’t seen Infinity War, so be warned. The trailers for Endgame have shown how the remaining heroes are dealing with not only the loss of half the population of the universe but also their personal accumulating losses when it comes to the other heroes, brothers, and sisters in arms that have been dusted as well. These trailers have shown the emotional toll and weight that is heavy on the hearts of those left behind; and they have also shown how each member of the remaining Avengers respond to those losses and how they are slowly getting back on their collective and unsure feet in order to “avenge” the universe and save the day.

At the end of the day, in my opinion true, not only this trailer but all of the trailers released for Avengers: Endgame have accomplished a great job in that they aren’t about the avenging that most assuredly is to come. They are about how even through great loss and suffering, the heroes that we’ve all grown to love will indeed rise up, persevere and avenge us all.

ESO’s Quarterly Events and Warframe’s Wolf of Saturn Event and why I’m loving them

Since leaving the World of Warcraft last year, I have been spending my gaming time mostly on two games, Elder Scrolls Online and Warframe. Both of these games can be played for free, though if you are a crafting whore like me, you will want to get the endless materials bag that comes with Elder Scrolls subscription service, ESO Plus. Since moving to Elder Scrolls Online, I have really enjoyed all of the seasonal events and now, the quarterly events that are coming during this year that they are calling “The Year of the Dragon” that surround the release of the next big expansion named Elsweyr that will be releasing on June 4th. I have also really been enjoying the Fortuna update and the new Nightwave series that was recently released a couple weeks ago on Warframe. While playing the events on both games, it’s dawned on me that I have almost never had this much fun doing seasonal events in WoW.

In WoW, seasonal events always felt like a chore that had to be achieved going all the way back to the earliest days of their release. I never felt like I was having fun doing them…ever. While playing the New Life events in ESO, I was immediately drawn in by the lore behind the events and I loved how not only could anyone level 10 or higher take place in the events, but that for newer players of lower level, it took them to new places and gave them reasons for doing it. It was more than just “go here and do this”. It was “go here and experience the culture of that area”. I really liked that.

On Warframe, the Nightwave series and this new story based alert system have in many ways revolutionized the way daily and weekly mission (and the rewards that come with them) are achieved. I love that I can pinpoint items that I want and work towards gaining them. In WoW, I’d have to pray that the RNG gods were pleased enough with me in order to get the piece or item that I wanted.

I guess that is the crux of the issue. In ESO and Warframe, I feel as a player that my goals are attainable if I put forth the effort and the journey is fun and engaging along the way, and that is something that is greatly missing in WoW, even with the newest patch that was released with 8.1.5. I would love it if the devs at Blizzard brought that back to WOW—and completely revamp the professions system, because ESO’s crafting system kicks the ass of WoW’s any day of the week.
