The Metro Exodus drama
I have been a gamer for a long time. I’ve been a gamer since the day where you had to go to an Arcade and spend 25cents on a game to get one life to play. I started my MMO/Computer gaming playing games such as Ultima Online, a glancing of RuneScape and the long defunct Middle Earth Online. My favorite RPG of all time is Final Fantasy, with my favorite of the series being Final Fantasy VII. I said that to say this. I understand having moments of annoyance with publishers. I also have issues with certain developers, in specific Turbine and their handling of the change over from Middle Earth Online to Lord of the Rings Online, which is a game that is a far cry from what was promised to gamers by the developers, but I digress.
When it comes to the whole drama surrounding Metro Exodus, my questions would be why are people boycotting the developers of this game, because of a decision made by the publishers? Also, why are fans boycotting the fact that more money will actually go to the developers so that they can make more games?
I personally don’t like or use Steam. Why you ask? I have a couple of simple reasons really. First, the Steam client is a clunky and resource intensive nuisance. I can’t stand that I have to have the client running in the background, even though I have and am using the .exe icons on my desktop to run the game. I abhor it. Lastly, instead of continuing to make their own games (I’m looking at you Half-Life and Left 4 Dead), they have instead gotten lazy in terms of game development, in favor of taking a third of the profits from each of the games that are sold on their store, which when it comes to indie developers is a good chunk of funds that is taken away from development of other games.
I would understand if the makers of Metro Exodus weren’t going to honor the purchases of their game through Steam. I just don’t understand why my fellow gamers are pissed about exclusivity now. Exclusivity has been a problem that has pervaded gaming for years now. Why the uproar now? Is it just another symptom of the Outraged Generation, or is it a bit of people hating change? Also, for those that say that Epic Games Launcher is clunky and unusable, Steam was the same way when it was first released. I’m sure that through the coming years, Epic Games Launcher will improve hopefully better than Value’s client has.
Honestly, as a longtime gamer, I feel that all the uproar is drama for drama’s sake. I also think that for those saying that they will just pirate the game instead of buying it and downloading it from the EG Launcher, it’s sad that you would rather steal than just buy the game and download it like you would have from Steam. For those that say they will boycott the game and not buy it, because it’s not on Stream, do you support the developer of the game not getting more money to create more games in the series? If you support Steam’s pricing model for developers/publishers, you are supporting business monopolies, and that’s sad. Just one gamer’s opinion, but there it is.
Nia Jax from a wrestling fan’s perspective
Ok, when Nia Jax was on Proving Ground on the WWE Network, she really endeared herself to me with her story. She worked hard to get to the main roster. Here’s the problem—since she’s moved up to the main roster, she has been hurting wrestlers. It’s not just kayfabe hurt, but legitimate hurting of people, some to the point of needing surgery. The newest members of the “Jax Hit Parade” are Ember Moon, who’s going to be out with elbow surgery and R-Truth who got rammed face first into the barrier. When I saw it unfold during the Men’s Rumble match, I knew he had to be hurt. Also, her in-ring abilities have fallen off drastically, which is part of the reason she is hurting people. If you go back and look at some of her recent matches within the past few months, she is sloppy and a potential hazard in the ring, and it shows so glaringly that even a fan like me can tell. I’ve been saying for months that she and Bliss need to go back to developmental so that they can hone their skills. I mean what is the WWE going to do, wait until Jax irreversibly injures someone before they send her back?
Kristoff St. John passes away
I am very sadden to hear this news. I can remember watching him act on the Young and the Restless with my grandma, who was a major fan of the show, and I even watched the show and him with my mom a few months before she passed away. It was one of the last things we did together. I also remember watching him on other shows as well. He was a really good actor. My condolences go out to his family. He will be missed.
